The Backstory to “Famous Last Words”
I wrote this song with my then-music-partner David Hale just after September 11, 2001. We were playing at a great little spot in Taos called The Western Sky Cafe. David had this great progression and I wrote the melody and the lyrics, thinking about what it might have been like for people on that day. I know it was how I felt.
So years later, I am making music online, collaborating with people in the Creative Commons. Recently, I posted a mix I made featuring sea gulls, and called it the Gulf Mix — for obvious reasons. then a couple of days later I get *this* mix back from someone calling himself “El Gambrero” and when I ask who he is, all I get back is, “I am musician from Russia.”
I made this video with free creative commons images and video. Thank you for watching and listening. http://melodyromancito.com or http://callingsistermidnight.com for more information.
Famous Last Words
(c) Romancito & Hale 2001
If I find myself at the end of the world
All alone and without you
Floating down the river to the sea
Gold sunset over me
Well, I’d have my speech ready
I know just what I’d say
My darlin … you know my famous last words would be “I love you”
And if I find myself on the road to heaven
St. Peter by my side
My life sketched out before me
all my sins and triumphs … I
I know what I would tell him
I know just what I’d say
My darlin
you know my famous last words would be “I love you”
Don’t be afraid to speak your love
Baby tell it where you are
you know you life is like a shooting star
shooting star a shooting star
